Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Systems Engineer who will work as part of engineering teams consisting of project managers, technical experts and engineers and will be responsible for new product developments and integration of both internal and external technologies. The role requires a highly motivated and skilled individual with a strong technical background to deliver new product development projects that seek to combine different sensor, communication, and imaging sub-systems. They will also have a focus on improving and facilitating the integration of Sonardyne technology with external technology partners and customers.

In addition to larger projects the role will require running and coordination of small development projects and be accountable for their delivery. This will include elements of project management and requires the candidate to be an excellent communicator both in person and through written documentation. The role will involve coordinating and collaborating with algorithm, sensor, software, and mechanical engineers to deliver these projects.

The role will benefit from a technical foundation in mechanics, electronics, and software to be able to deliver these projects but will not be expected to embark on any significant design work within any individual specialism. Whilst experience of marine technology would be beneficial, it is not essential.

Your responsibilities:

  • Sub-System Integration – Deliver new product designs that integrate diverse sensor subsystems for underwater positioning, navigation, and imaging. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the compatibility and interoperability of different subsystems.
  • Technical Expertise – Utilise a strong technical background to understand and address challenges related to the integration of sensor, communication, and imaging subsystems
  • Testing and Validation – Plan and execute test procedures to validate the functionality and performance of integrated sensor subsystems.
  • Documentation – Create comprehensive technical documentation, including system requirements, design specifications, and integration plans. Ensure that documentation is kept up-to-date and is accessible to relevant team members.
  • Communication – Collaborate with external technology partners, suppliers, and customers to address integration-related inquiries and concerns. Effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Project Management – For smaller scale projects not warranting dedicated project management you will be able to develop and execute project plans, maintain the timelines for key deliverables. Work proactively to address and resolve technical issues that may arise during the development lifecycle and manage project risk.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in systems engineering, particularly in integrating different electronics systems, sensors, and managing software interfaces.
  • Able to accurately and comprehensively capture user and system requirements
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in successfully delivering small to medium projects on time and within budget.
  • Proven experience in generating clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Considers the requirements of the user from an interface and experience perspective.
  • Can communicate and work effectively with other team members, and members of other teams throughout the business to achieve project deliverables.

Qualifications

  • BSc/BEng – Control Systems, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar degree
