Sonardyne’s Projects Department is expanding as we take on an increasing number of complex, high-impact customer programmes across the offshore, defence, and ocean science sectors. We are now seeking a talented Project Manager to join our world-class Custom Projects Group and help deliver bespoke subsea systems and advanced marine technology solutions.

As part of a growing multi-disciplinary team, you will manage cutting-edge engineering projects from concept to delivery—working closely with technical leads, systems engineers, and specialists across our matrix organisation to ensure customers receive innovative, reliable, and high-quality solutions.

About the Role

As a Project Manager, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of custom development projects, ensuring they meet customer requirements, comply with industry standards, and are delivered on time and within budget.

You will be the main point of contact for internal stakeholders and customers, responsible for planning, resource allocation, documentation, communication, and risk management. You will also support bid activity, contribute to continuous improvement, and help strengthen project management practices across the business.

If you join you will be integral in:

Project Delivery

  • Planning, resourcing, and executing bespoke engineering projects aligned with customer specifications and internal processes.

  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams throughout the full project lifecycle.

  • Tracking progress, adapt plans, and ensure quality of all deliverables.

Bid & Proposal Support

  • Producing work breakdown structures, schedules, and costings to support commercial bids.

Project Management Planning

  • Developing comprehensive Project Management Plans covering scope, milestones, deliverables, risks, budget, and stakeholders.

Scheduling & Budget Control

  • Building and maintaining project schedules using a clear WBS.

  • Monitoring spend, reporting on KPIs, and escalating deviations promptly.

Requirements & Verification

  • Working with a Systems Engineer/Technical Lead to define, review, and verify all technical requirements.

Risk Management

  • Identifying, assessing, documenting, and mitigating project risks, implementing contingency plans where needed.

Meetings & Reviews

  • Leading internal and external gateway reviews.

  • Ensuring actions, decisions, and documentation are completed efficiently.

Customer & Stakeholder Communication

  • Maintaining strong, professional relationships with customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.

  • Providing clear communication at all levels across the business.

Compliance

  • Ensuring adherence to internal processes, customer standards, and ISO9001.

Continuous Improvement

  • Conducting project closeouts, gather lessons learned, and contribute to the development of the Projects function.


Ideally we would like:

  • Proven project management experience in an engineering environment.

  • Ability to deliver through others in a matrix organisation.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience working directly with external customers.

  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organisational skills.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Degree (BSc/BEng) in Engineering or similar discipline.
  • APM PMQ, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification.

  • Expert in analogue and digital electronics design, including simulation and low-power techniques
  • Competent in designing for EMC and understanding standards such as EN60945
  • Competent in Altium for schematic design and basic PCB layout principles
  • Competent in C programming; basic understanding of C++
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Hands-on fault-finding and production support experience
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • 2:1 or above in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline

Job Type: Full-Time – 18 month FTC

We are seeking a detail-oriented Assembly Technician to join our dynamic manufacturing team. You will be responsible for assembling products from PCB level through to sub-assembly and final unit production, ensuring adherence to engineering drawings and quality standards. This role is critical in maintaining the high-quality standards of our products and requires a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail.

If you join you will : 

  • Assemble product components from PCB level to final unit build, following detailed engineering drawings.
  • Work with wiring schedules and utilize appropriate meters to verify assembled work.
  • Identify and report any specification or design errors to relevant personnel, including Cell Coordinators, Departmental Managers, or the Production Engineering team.
  • Ensure all activities comply with quality system procedures and recommended timeframes within the Company ERP system.
  • Raise non-conformance reports (e.g., Observation Reports, Engineering Change Requests) in line with quality system requirements.
  • Foster effective collaboration with various departments (Production Engineering, Stores, Quality, etc.) to resolve assembly-related issues efficiently.
  • Provide support to fellow assembly staff as needed to ensure timely project completion.
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to all administrative procedures within the Manufacturing Department.
  • Utilize company IT resources (Intranet, ERP system) for part inquiries, stock searches, and other daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct electrical, electronic, and tank test procedures throughout the production process, from component level to final assembly.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults down to component level through adjustments or repairs.
  • Perform basic assembly activities to support the testing process.
