Sonardyne’s Projects Department is expanding as we take on an increasing number of complex, high-impact customer programmes across the offshore, defence, and ocean science sectors. We are now seeking a talented Project Manager to join our world-class Custom Projects Group and help deliver bespoke subsea systems and advanced marine technology solutions.

As part of a growing multi-disciplinary team, you will manage cutting-edge engineering projects from concept to delivery—working closely with technical leads, systems engineers, and specialists across our matrix organisation to ensure customers receive innovative, reliable, and high-quality solutions.

About the Role

As a Project Manager, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of custom development projects, ensuring they meet customer requirements, comply with industry standards, and are delivered on time and within budget.

You will be the main point of contact for internal stakeholders and customers, responsible for planning, resource allocation, documentation, communication, and risk management. You will also support bid activity, contribute to continuous improvement, and help strengthen project management practices across the business.

Project Delivery

  • Planning, resourcing, and executing bespoke engineering projects aligned with customer specifications and internal processes.

  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams throughout the full project lifecycle.

  • Tracking progress, adapt plans, and ensure quality of all deliverables.

Bid & Proposal Support

  • Producing work breakdown structures, schedules, and costings to support commercial bids.

Project Management Planning

  • Developing comprehensive Project Management Plans covering scope, milestones, deliverables, risks, budget, and stakeholders.

Scheduling & Budget Control

  • Building and maintaining project schedules using a clear WBS.

  • Monitoring spend, reporting on KPIs, and escalating deviations promptly.

Requirements & Verification

  • Working with a Systems Engineer/Technical Lead to define, review, and verify all technical requirements.

Risk Management

  • Identifying, assessing, documenting, and mitigating project risks, implementing contingency plans where needed.

Meetings & Reviews

  • Leading internal and external gateway reviews.

  • Ensuring actions, decisions, and documentation are completed efficiently.

Customer & Stakeholder Communication

  • Maintaining strong, professional relationships with customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.

  • Providing clear communication at all levels across the business.

Compliance

  • Ensuring adherence to internal processes, customer standards, and ISO9001.

Continuous Improvement

  • Conducting project closeouts, gather lessons learned, and contribute to the development of the Projects function.


Ideally we would like:

  • Proven project management experience in an engineering environment.

  • Ability to deliver through others in a matrix organisation.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience working directly with external customers.

  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organisational skills.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Degree (BSc/BEng) in Engineering or similar discipline.
  • APM PMQ, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification.

We are expanding our specialist engineering team and seeking a Project & Applications Engineer to deliver innovative, bespoke solutions for customers worldwide.

This is a hands-on, varied and technically rich role—ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering, customer interaction, offshore operations and multi-disciplinary problem solving.


The Opportunity

You will coordinate and deliver custom engineering projects using Sonardyne technology, from concept and prototype through test, validation and integration. Working closely with internal teams and customers, you’ll ensure solutions are delivered safely, on time, on budget and to the highest technical standard.

This role includes offshore work, international travel, and involvement in real-world deployment of advanced subsea technologies.

  • Delivering bespoke engineering solutions that meet specific customer requirements—on schedule, within budget, and aligned with Sonardyne’s quality standards
  • Integrating Sonardyne systems onto customer platforms, ensuring optimal performance
  • Working collaboratively with Engineering, Production, Finance, Software and Sales teams to design, build, test and deliver custom solutions
  • Supporting customer trials onshore and offshore worldwide, including planning, execution, data analysis and reporting
  • Communicating technical and safety-critical information clearly in environments where English may not be the first language
  • Providing feedback from field operations to drive product improvements and roadmap decisions
  • Monitoring competitor technology and feed commercial intelligence back to the business
  • Processing and interpret datasets from products such as SPRINT-Nav and Ranger 2 for troubleshooting and support
  • Setting up and mobilising marine survey equipment on vessels, selecting appropriate sensors and GNSS systems (RTK vs DGPS)
  • Reading wiring diagrams, build test cables, and work safely with electronic equipment (soldering irons, DVMs, oscilloscopes)
  • Understanding and work with mechanical drawings to design or adapt mounting hardware in the field
  • Producing and reviewing user manuals, procedures and technical documentation
  • Preparing risk assessments, toolbox talks and safety documentation for tasks on vessels and customer sites
  • Supporting customer training, demonstrations, and technology evaluations
  • Providing timely communication to internal and external stakeholders throughout a project’s lifecycle
  • Participating in project closeouts and lessons-learned activities to improve processes
  • Acting as a recognised authority in Sonardyne system integration and operation
  • Supporting the marketing team with technical information when required

You’ll excel in this role if you enjoy combining technical engineering work with practical field operations and customer-facing problem solving.

Ideally we would like:

  • Strong ‘safety-first’ mindset with proven experience applying HSE policies and completing risk assessments

  • Experience working offshore and internationally

  • Ability to explain safety-critical and technical information clearly to diverse audiences

  • Competent with marine ancillary equipment (GNSS, sound velocity sensors, survey sensors)

  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, build cables, and use electronic test tools

  • Hands-on experience with Sonardyne systems (USBL, LBL, INS, SMART, BlueComm, ADL, AMT/Fetch/AZA)

  • Experience installing, commissioning and operating Sonardyne acoustic technologies

  • Understanding of subsea hardware interfacing (serial/Ethernet protocols, power, timing, mechanical interfaces)

  • Strong communication, teamwork, adaptability, and attention to detail

  • Good commercial awareness when working on customer sites

  • Physical readiness to work at height, in confined spaces, lift up to 25 kg, and operate safely on vessels

  • Ability to work autonomously and represent Sonardyne professionally worldwide
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline (Robotics, Mechatronics, Survey, Electronics, Systems, Communications, Software or related)

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Offshore medical

  • BOSIET (or equivalent)

As part of our Engineering Department, you’ll gain hands-on experience across the full product lifecycle—from concept design and prototype development to testing and production support. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, helping to create CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings, while learning how these feed into real-world manufacturing and testing processes.

If you join you will be:

  • Supporting the design and development of mechanical components for new prototypes and existing products.

  • Produceing detailed 3D CAD models, piece part and assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and PCB assembly drawings.

  • Participating in mechanical compliance and environmental testing (pressure, temperature, vibration, load, etc.).

About the Role

We’re looking for a highly organized and proactive Technical Assistant to join our team in Brasil. This is a key support role within the Production team, helping to keep things running smoothly both technically and administratively.

You’ll work closely with various departments, providing support on everything from maintaining technical documentation to managing office supplies and handling invoices. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a passion for organization.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Prepare and review technical documents (manuals, work instructions, reports, product specs)

  • Keep records and manage document filing systems

  • Handle administrative tasks including invoicing, data entry, report creation, and payment tracking

  • Manage office supplies and inventory levels

  • Support procurement processes in line with company policies

  • Assist with project documentation and scheduling maintenance activities

  • Collect and analyze KPIs to support decision-making

  • Act as a link between technical and admin teams

 


What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Technical degree in a related field

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability

  • Problem-solving mindset

  • Good communication skills

  • Intermediate English (spoken and written)

  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

  • Finance knowledge

Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics or a related area

  • Experience with ERP systems

  • Previous hands-on technical experience

  • Strong time management skills

  • Ability to build good working relationships

  • Personal drive and enthusiasm
