From the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on earth, to surging shorelines and anywhere in-between, we make the impossible possible through our continuous passion for innovation.

Our people design, engineer and manufacture technologies that are enabling our customers to discover, navigate, measure, detect and communicate in the toughest environment on earth: Our oceans. We’ve been actively developing the technology to make the oceans accessible for over 50 years and we’re only just getting started… At Sonardyne, we value different ways of thinking. Whether you think in code, patterns, systems, or steps, your unique perspective is important to us.

Sonardyne is seeking an experienced and driven Transducer Engineer to join our Electromechanical Design Group. This is a high-impact role offering the opportunity to lead continuous, data-driven improvements across our transducer systems and ensure world-class acoustic performance and reliability.

With over 50 years of innovation in underwater acoustics, Sonardyne operates at the forefront of subsea technology. In this role, you will work across the full product lifecycle, collaborating closely with design, production, and quality teams to shape and maintain acoustic excellence in products used globally.

We welcome applications from individuals with a strong background in acoustics or underwater technologies, and we value diversity of thought, experience, and technical perspective—including those with an interest in data science applied to acoustics.

If you join you will be integral in:

  • Define, maintain, and evolve acoustic quality standards and acceptance criteria for new and existing products

  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating and validating acoustic performance throughout the product lifecycle

  • Work closely with production teams to ensure consistent, high-quality, and efficient transducer manufacture

  • Support the development and introduction of new transducer designs into production

  • Specify acoustic quality requirements during early-stage product design in collaboration with design and development teams

  • Lead root cause investigations into acoustic performance issues and drive corrective actions

  • Develop and implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance acoustic consistency and performance

  • Represent acoustic quality interests in design reviews, product release processes, and supplier engagements

  • Communicate and align quality practices across internal teams and international Sonardyne sites

About You :

You are a technically strong engineer with a passion for acoustics and a detail-driven approach to quality and performance. You enjoy solving complex problems, working collaboratively, and influencing outcomes across multidisciplinary teams.

Ideally we would like:

  • Experience in acoustic quality control, transducer performance, or underwater acoustics

  • Strong understanding of acoustic theory, signal processing, and transducer technologies

  • Ability to analyse and interpret acoustic test data and performance specifications

  • Familiarity with quality management systems, standards, and continuous improvement methodologies

  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills

  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office

  • Degree in Physics, Mathematics or Engineering (BEng/BSC minimum or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a relevant industry

It would be a bonus if you had:

  • Experience developing laboratory software or test tools

  • Practical mechanical engineering skills, including prototype assembly and testing

  • Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing environments

Why Join Sonardyne?

At Sonardyne, you’ll work alongside experts in underwater acoustics, contributing to innovative technologies that support ocean science, energy, autonomy, and defence applications worldwide. We offer a collaborative and technically challenging environment where your expertise will directly shape product quality and performance.
