Job Purpose

To develop, co-ordinate and deliver bespoke engineering solutions in-line with customer requirements, internal processes/standards and legal and commercial considerations through planning, prototype design, test, validation and integration.

 

Principal Responsibilities

 

  1. 1. Deliver custom development Projects on time, on budget and to specification, working under the supervision of Senior Project Managers to ensure Projects are properly planned, resourced and executed.

    2. Assist with the creation of PD04 Project Justification Documents by gathering and reviewing preliminary information for the intended development collected from various internal and external stakeholders such as customers, GBM’s, Engineers in order to obtain Director level authorisation to proceed.

  5. 3. Produce comprehensive, reviewed and authorised PD04 compliant project specifications which identify and document the functional requirements and performance characteristics of the system.

  7. 4. Produce comprehensive, reviewed and authorised PD04 compliant project designs which document the implementation of the functional requirements.

  9. 5. Create and maintain a project plan that documents key milestones, tasks and processes throughout the development that lead to delivery of the correct equipment on time and on budget

  11. 6. Create and review test procedures for systems including ITPs FATs and CAT tests, and to represent the Company as the recognised technical authority throughout ensuring that all arising issues are dealt with to the full satisfaction of the Customer.

  13. 7. Develop and undertake rigorous bench, in-water and environment testing/trials to validate the integrated hardware/firmware/software prototype elements and deliverable configured systems with documented results.

  15. 8. Control project related risks by identifying, documenting, assessing and finally mitigating them where possible and raising them to senior management where appropriate.

  17. 9. Ensure all manufacturing, test, design change, problem reports and support documentation is completed in compliance with internal Company procedures and Customer quality requirements e.g. Unit test procedures, System FAT, SAT, ITB and MRB.

  19. 10. Run and participate in internal and/or external specification, planning and design reviews, technical discussions and customer meetings ensuring that all actions are recorded and completed in a timely manner.

  21. 11. Prepare, submit and control Project documentation to individual customer requirements including manuals, manufacturing record books, interface specifications, handling/storage procedures and test & inspection plans.

  23. 12. Deliver timely and thorough targeted communication for projects to all those with a direct and indirect interest including Senior Project Managers, Projects Group Manager, customers, operators, developers, contractors and Senior Management.

  25. 13. Ensure that all company procedures for Project control are followed, documented and approved as required by ISO 9001 and all other Company adopted standards.

  27. 14. Ensure completion of project deliverables in the required timescales and perform a successful handover to relevant recipients in conjunction with the Development teams, Production and Sales Admin.

  29. 15. Ensure that projects are delivered to a controlled and agreed budget by assisting with the original estimations, monitoring spending against the project plan and raising any deviations with Senior Management.

Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning of new systems and provide ongoing Customer support for the accepted bespoke solutions ensuring maximum Customer understanding of operational requirements through the provision of informal or formal training and comprehensive technical instruction manuals.

  33. 17. Share/transfer customer support capability with the internal field engineering resources, ensuring sufficient availability of advice, guidance and practical assistance to the Customer both onshore and offshore for the duration of the systems lifecycles.

Undertake PD04 project closeout reviews of BOP systems and the product development process as a method of evaluation to establish and assess if the project requirements were met highlighting trends and issues, specify corrective actions putting forward recommendations for future development work in the form of requirement/planning documents, product strategy/roadmap or other appropriate formats.

2. To actively contribute to the Company’s continuous improvement process through presentation of corrective actions, suggestions or initiatives focussed on increasing  efficiency, productivity, customer satisfaction and employee morale throughout Sonardyne.

 

3. To keep up to date with Company organisation and structure, technology, products, applications and customers, through attendance on training events, personal liaison with internal commercial, technical and business support staff and awareness of general Company internal communications. 

 

4. To establish, maintain and promote effective working relationships across the Company based on positive two-way communications, planning and a collaborative working style.

 

5. To ensure awareness, understanding and adherence to all Company Policies and Procedures, including Health & Safety, Anti Bribery, ISO-QMS, Financial, Commercial and Operational.

 

6. To maintain technical and professional job competencies (qualifications, knowledge and personal skills) through continuous development activities including formal training, self-directed learning, use of professional networks, literature reviews etc.

 

Dimensions of the Role:

 

Staff responsibility:  No direct supervision of staff.

Team:  A member of the Projects Group

Market:  Oil majors, Offshore Oil & Gas operating companies, Government bodies, and major systems integrators.

Travel:  Occasional UK and International travel. In a typical year this may involve up to 5 offsite visits of 1 week to the Plymouth trials facility. Additionally 1 or 2 possible international offshore trips per year of approximately 2 weeks duration each.  Offshore Survival Training will be provided.

 

Qualifications:

 

* Educated to degree level BSc/BEng or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or similar

 

KNOWLEDGE:

 

* Knowledge of Lab testing equipment such as Oscilloscopes and DVM’s

* Working knowledge of the product development process/lifecycle and the various stages within that

* A current driving licence valid in the UK

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

* Proven ability to deliver results through others 

* Proven experience of liaising directly with customers and delivering the highest possible levels of customer service

* Proven experience of liaising directly with all levels of seniority both internally and externally to a business

* Experience of working in an offshore/offsite environment

* Project management expertise and experience involving direct customer liaison and internal departmental co-ordination/delivery
