A Software System Test Engineer to join our System Test Group who enjoys innovative technology, has experience in creating and completing system tests, manual and automated. As part of the System Test Group you will be working not only with your direct team but also closely with the entire Sonardyne engineering team working together on providing world leading quality solutions. The Engineer should be self-motivated, innovative, proactive and be able to work successfully in an environment which includes multiple platforms, architectures and diverse technologies.

your responsibilities:

  • System testing of our products. Test functionality, usability, performance and stability of all our software/hardware applications.
  • Study and understand specification(s)/requirements, user stories/epics/scenarios and interpret acceptance criteria to produce effective and relevant test plans.
  • Perform both exploratory and candidate release testing.
  • Investigate, reproduce, log and update issues.
  • Improve the quality, usability and reliability of our products.
  • To establish and maintain strong communication channels with hardware, software and firmware specialists across the Company.
  • To contribute to the continuous improvement of the System Test Team and wider Engineering department through the identification of potential changes and initiatives aimed at increasing productivity, efficiency and improving the overall team and department’s function
  • Contributes to, or can review, time and cost estimates for testing tasks
  • Can independently evaluate, select and adapt standard testing techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • To maintain and update technical and professional job competencies (qualification, knowledge, and personal skills), through continuous personal development including formal training, self-directed learning etc.
  • To organise and conduct trials at Sonardyne’s trial facility in Plymouth.


are you the ideal candidate?

  • Automated/Manual Software Testing execution and creation experience
  • Experience with lifecycle management software (e.g. Jira)
  • Experience with test automation tools (e.g. Leapwork, Selenium, Ranorex, Katalon)
  • Experience with at least one programming language (Python, C, C++, PHP or Java)Basic Knowledge of programming / scripting (e.g. Python, C#, C++)
  • Aware of different testing methods e.g. System Testing, Functional Testing, Exploratory Testing, Automated Testing, Compatibility Testing, Regression Testing, Reliability Testing, Usability Testing.
  • Software System Testing Qualification (e.g. ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Automated/Manual Software Testing execution and creation experience
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering/Technical/Mathematics/Science disciplines
  • You must have the mindset of a Tester (Therefore considering the end users/Customers)
  • A logical and scrupulous approach with good attention to detail.Self-directed, taking action on you own initiative
  • Open and collaborative
  • Analytical: base decision making on data when available
  • Problem solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Pragmatic, flexible, determined and well organized. Capable of working under pressure.
  • Critical evaluation and analytical abilities.
  • Propose new ideas and approaches, not afraid to challenge the status quo.
