Part of your port and habour surveillance

The security of the world’s port and harbour areas is coming under increased scrutiny due to the growing concerns of a possible terrorist attack.

The International Ship and Port Facility Code (ISPS code) outlines responsibilities to governments, shipping companies, shipboard personnel, and port/facility personnel to “detect security threats and take preventative measures against security incidents affecting ships or port facilities used in international trade.” This has prompted the increasing need for a security solution that includes underwater coverage which is automated, provides complete and detailed coverage information 24/7, and requires few training hours to master.

Tidal Harbours

Sentinel has been specifically designed to cope with port environments, including ‘brown’ water, shallow water and tidal harbours where vessel activity results in a lot of disturbance in the water column. The system’s unique detection, classification and tracking software has been proven to operate in all environmental conditions and is capable of tracking thousands of targets in real-time, with only genuine threats raising the alarm.

However, the reliable detection of underwater targets in the acoustically hostile environment of a seaport, harbour or marine terminal is a notoriously difficult challenge to overcome. Constant vessel traffic, noise from active depth sounders and a complex thermal structure are commonplace. What’s needed is a solution that provides both a persistent and robust surveillance capability to monitor both above and below the water surface, as well as providing an inspection capability to regularly inspect the port and harbour against predetermined and learned security threats.
