RiserView System

RiserView is a riser and mooring line tension monitoring system that provides operators with position, inclination and depth information from transponders installed at key strategic points on the riser. This information is used with a custom designed catenary model of each riser and line to compute tension.

Position and tension information is displayed numerically to the operator, along with 2D and 3D graphical representation of the risers and mooring lines. All data is logged for analysis. The update rate is operator configurable.

Acoustic transponders are clamped onto the risers and mooring lines using an ROV-operated 'scissor clamp' with protective inserts to suit the outside diameter. Once installed, the transponders can be removed by the ROV for maintenance without having to remove the clamp.

The upper riser transponders provide position information and contain a pressure sensor to measure depth of the riser/ turret buoy. They also contain a precision dual axis inclinometer to measure the exit angle of the riser below the turret buoy or vessel. Lower riser and mooring line transponders typically provide only the position information.

A Sonardyne Ranger 1 or Ranger 2 Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) acoustic positioning system is required to be installed on the production vessel along with a motion reference sensor and GPS inputs. RiserView software interfaces to the Ranger system via a remote control interface and automatically controls the routine interrogation of each transponder in turn to acquire data. USBL derived position and acoustic telemetry of pressure (depth) and inclination data enables computation of tension from the catenary model.
