Inside the Construction Matrix, Sonardyne's new sixth generation hardware platform utilises ultra-wide bandwidth signals to provide exceptional subsea navigation, communications and positioning performance. The technology is intuitive to set up and use, offers robust acoustic performance in all operating conditions, has low ownership costs through greater equipment versatility, operates for longer and is compatible with inertial navigation technologies.
Tracking any structure from the time it is lifted from the installation vessel until the time it touches down on the seabed requires accurate knowledge of both position and dynamics to ensure it is deployed safely and lands in the required target area.
The Wideband 2 signals used in Sonardyne's 6G® USBL and LBL techniques provide robust ranging and data telemetry amongst the hard reflective surfaces of structures. Additionally, Sonardyne's new 6G® USBL transceivers offer vessel-based positioning accuracy in deeper water reducing the requirement for costly seabed equipment deployments.
For highly accurate structure positioning in any water depth, Sonardyne's 6G® seabed deployed LBL technique provides the solution using robust and proven hardware and techniques. During structure touchdown on the seabed, position update rates are critical to ensure the structure is landed in the correct location and with the correct predefined orientation. Sonardyne's 6G® wireless aided inertial navigation through the GyroCompatt smoothes USBL or LBL positioning providing precise, high update position and attitude information at this critical phase.
Fast and accurate position and orientation information provided from the performance increase of both 6G® Optimised USBL and LBL ensures installed structures are within specification. Prior to metrology operations, structure settlement must be complete to ensure there is no structure movement between measurement and spool piece fitment. Sonardyne's 6G® autonomous monitoring techniques allows autonomous data collection and logging of both range and sensor data whilst the vessel moves on to the next task in hand.
Subsea metrology requires accurate, precise and robust measurements which are critical for successful fabrication and installation of a spool or jumper. Sonardyne's Wideband® 2 signals offer both increased speed, robustness and simplicity of acoustic measurements whilst 6G® inertial techniques expand the areas in which metrology measurements can be performed.
The combination of both acoustic and inertial techniques through Sonardyne's GyroCompatt instrument offers low risk, multi-functional and cost-effective solutions for most metrology projects.
GyroCompatt can be placed on a hub and wirelessly commanded to acquire hub baselines, sound velocity, vertical height (pressure), attitude (high precision pitch and roll) and importantly hub heading (true north) from a single unit. This instrument reduces the system complexity, reduces time as it is the only sensor required to be mated to the hub and provides a tightly coupled solution reducing offsetting errors.
